2008 Youth Explosion
Youth from Bastrop, Baton Rouge, Epps, Haughton, Ruston, Shreveport, and other surrounding areas erupted with joy at the 2008 Youth Explosion! Although it was Bethel’s first youth conference, it was dynamite! The conference was hosted by the Youth Pastor, Elder Charles Stevenson, Jr. The registration fee was $20; the fee included a T-shirt with the new C.H.O.S.E.N. Youth Ministries logo and tickets to the Saturday events.
Many Bethel members and members of the sister church registered for the conference. Attendance was excellent! Participation from our youth was also outstanding! On Friday night, the drill team delivered a performance that “blew many of us away.” Elder Ted Scott, Jr., ignited us with his dramatized sermon of two men, a rich man who rejects God and a beggar who trusts in the Lord (Luke 16:19). Basketball and volleyball tournaments were held on Saturday.
Choudrant COGIC nearly swept the events; however, the Bethel COGIC junior basketball team (with four of Sis. Boston’s grandsons) won a game. The Epps COGIC basketball team also won a game. Face painting and cheerleading were also available. On Sunday, the Youth Pastor delivered the Word and a young girl received the Holy Ghost. The culmination of the conference was on Sunday night: an excellent Youth Gospel Explosion!
The youth choir sang magnificently! The master of ceremonies was recording artist Pastor Joseph Lindsey. Greater Ouachita District Praise Team sang beautiful praise and worship songs. Our special guest was Jerard Woods. He invited Michael Allen Stevenson, II, to sing with him. The standing-room-only crowd was energized! C.H.O.S.E.N. Youth would like to thank the following people: Supt. Stevenson; workers; youth sponsors; directors (Jeremy Louis and Eldon Pipes); musicians; visitors; and Ms. Jackie Holliday of KOUS.

Jerard Woods, our guest, was truly special!
Jerard began his career at the age of three singing with his sister, Melete, and his family's group. The Shreveport native and product of First Jurisdiction of Louisiana Church of God in Christ moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Jerard has spent the last decade or so as one of Gospel's most notable background vocalists. He is married to Jovaun Woods, who has been described as “literally a female counterpart to Woods in her vocal flexibility.”
These dynamic singer-songwriters are the parents of Jerard, II, and Justin. For the past seven years, Jerard has been touring with gospel legends, CeCe Winans and Donnie McClurkin. He recently launched out by partnering with his brother, Terry, to start their own record label, Found Sound Music. Their first offering is Jerard’s debut album, aptly titled, I Waited. His debut effort in no way disapppoints and shows the strength of his vocal aptitude as a solo artist.

Michael Allen was a fast learner; Jerard and everyone else enjoyed it!
